R0AR will sunset its existing Optimism-based Layer 2, pause new node license sales during the transition, protect existing node license holders, and advance development of a new EVM-compatible Layer 1 architecture built for the next generation of the R0AR ecosystem.

August 2026 — R0AR today announced a major evolution of its blockchain infrastructure strategy: the planned sunset of R0AR Chain 1.0, its current Layer 2 network built using Optimism technology with infrastructure hosting and support provided in partnership with Zeeve.

As part of this transition, new R0AR node license sales are being paused effective immediately. R0AR plans to continue supporting R0AR Chain 1.0 through December 31, 2026, providing the community and ecosystem with an orderly transition period while development progresses on the next generation of R0AR blockchain infrastructure.

This decision represents a strategic evolution of R0AR's long-term technology roadmap rather than a retreat from blockchain infrastructure.

R0AR is building for a future centered on decentralized infrastructure, AI agents, autonomous commerce, digital ownership, community participation, and sustainable ecosystem economics.

Why R0AR Is Moving Beyond Chain 1.0

R0AR Chain 1.0 was developed during a period when the Optimism Superchain represented a compelling opportunity for emerging blockchain ecosystems. In particular, the rapid growth surrounding Layer 2 infrastructure and the Superchain during the 2025 crypto market cycle made the architecture attractive for R0AR's initial network strategy.

The blockchain landscape, however, continues to evolve rapidly.

The roadmaps of Optimism, infrastructure providers, Base, and other major blockchain ecosystems have continued to develop, creating new architectural and strategic considerations for R0AR.

At the same time, R0AR itself has changed significantly.

Our ecosystem today extends far beyond operating an independent Layer 2. R0AR is increasingly focused on bringing together the R0AR Safe, R0AR Platform, AI Agents, BRS NFTs, decentralized applications, digital identity, payments, DeFi, and Agentic Commerce into a connected economic ecosystem.

As those products have matured, it has become increasingly clear that R0AR needs blockchain infrastructure designed specifically around that broader vision.

Rather than continuing to invest indefinitely in an architecture whose economics, infrastructure model, and strategic roadmap no longer fully align with the needs of the R0AR community, we believe our responsibility is to build for the next decade rather than preserve decisions made for the previous market cycle.

Building Infrastructure That Can Sustain the R0AR Ecosystem

One of the most important lessons from R0AR Chain 1.0 has been economic.

Operating blockchain infrastructure requires significant ongoing development, hosting, engineering, maintenance, and support costs. Over the past year, the economics of R0AR Chain 1.0 have not produced the sustainable return or community value necessary to justify maintaining the existing model indefinitely.

The node architecture developed as part of the original solution also did not ultimately deliver the level of meaningful network participation and community utility that R0AR believes node license holders should receive.

That matters.

As R0AR moves toward increasingly decentralized governance, the ecosystem must be capable of supporting itself over the long term. Infrastructure should create meaningful participation, utility, and economic alignment—not simply recurring expenses for the organization and its community.

We therefore believe continuing down the same path would be inconsistent with our responsibility to R0AR holders, node license owners, builders, and ecosystem participants.

R0AR Chain 2.0 is being designed around a different principle: infrastructure must serve the ecosystem, and the ecosystem must ultimately be capable of sustaining the infrastructure.

R0AR Chain 2.0 Is Already Under Development

This transition did not begin today.

In November 2025, R0AR began development of its own next-generation blockchain architecture: an EVM-compatible Layer 1 with Layer 2 connectivity designed specifically around the future requirements of the R0AR ecosystem.

That development has progressed substantially.

R0AR Chain 2.0 is now entering its final stages of private alpha testing.

The new architecture is intended to give R0AR greater control over network economics, infrastructure, governance, interoperability, node participation, and the integration of emerging technologies including autonomous AI agents and Agentic Commerce.

Most importantly for our existing community, the architecture has been designed with current R0AR node license holders in mind.

Existing Node License Holders Will Be Supported

R0AR remains committed to the community members who purchased node licenses and supported the development of R0AR Chain 1.0.

Existing node licenses are not being abandoned as part of this transition.

R0AR is developing a migration path that will allow current node licenses to participate in the next phase of the ecosystem. Components of that transition will incorporate the Base ecosystem while R0AR continues development and testing of its own Layer 1 and connected Layer 2 architecture.

New node license sales will remain paused during this transition and are expected to resume only when R0AR approaches a future public beta/testnet milestone and can provide the community with greater visibility into the final network architecture and node implementation.

We believe that is the responsible approach.

We do not want to sell additional node licenses simply because we can. We want the infrastructure, utility, economics, and roadmap supporting those licenses to be ready.

Giving Node Holders Utility Before Chain 2.0 Launches

R0AR Chain 2.0 remains an ambitious development effort, and completing the network responsibly will take time.

We do not believe existing node license holders should have to wait without receiving additional ecosystem utility.

For that reason, R0AR is preparing functionality that will allow eligible node license holders to delegate their node licenses through R0ARSafe.com to other wallets they control.

Those delegated licenses are expected to connect with benefits across upcoming R0AR ecosystem releases, including the Penthouse Suite and R0AR Platform Season 3.

This creates an opportunity for node licenses to become part of the broader R0AR ecosystem before their full Chain 2.0 network functionality is activated.

It is also our way of saying:

Thank you.

Thank you to the community members who have supported R0AR through the experimentation, development, successes, challenges, and lessons that came with building our first blockchain.

Technology evolves. Markets evolve. Infrastructure evolves.

The responsibility of R0AR is to evolve with them.

From Blockchain Infrastructure to Agentic Commerce

The larger reason behind R0AR Chain 2.0 extends beyond transaction throughput or network fees.

R0AR is building toward an emerging economy in which autonomous AI agents can interact with wallets, applications, digital assets, identities, businesses, protocols, and other agents.

That future requires more than another general-purpose blockchain.

It requires infrastructure designed around Agentic Commerce.

Our work across R0AR Safe, the R0AR Platform, AI Agents, BRS NFTs, decentralized finance, digital ownership, wallet infrastructure, and the wider R0AR ecosystem is increasingly converging around that opportunity.

The blockchain supporting that ecosystem must therefore be designed for where R0AR is going—not simply where the industry was when Chain 1.0 was conceived.

R0AR Chain 2.0 represents that next step.

What Happens Next

During the transition:

  • R0AR Chain 1.0 will be sunset in an orderly process.

  • New node license sales are paused effective immediately.

  • R0AR Chain 1.0 support is planned to continue through December 31, 2026.

  • Existing node license holders will remain part of R0AR's future network strategy.

  • Node license delegation through R0ARSafe.com is being prepared to provide expanded ecosystem utility ahead of Chain 2.0 node activation.

  • R0AR Chain 2.0 will continue through private alpha development and testing before progressing toward public testnet.

  • Additional information regarding migration, node architecture, incentives, testnet participation, and the R0AR Chain 2.0 roadmap will be released as development milestones are reached.

Our objective from 2026 through 2027 is straightforward:

Build the blockchain infrastructure R0AR needs for the future—not the infrastructure the market expected from us in the past.

To every R0AR holder, node license owner, developer, partner, and community member who has traveled this road with us: thank you.

Chain 1.0 taught us what we needed to learn.

R0AR Chain 2.0 is where we put those lessons to work.

More information about R0AR Chain 2.0 will be released soon.
